Coco Gauff reconoció estar encantada con su rendimiento en Cincinnati y confía en que el nivel mostrado en el torneo le permita protagonizar otra gran actuación en el US Open.
Antes de viajar a Cincinnati, la campeona de dos Grand Slam todavía no había conquistado ningún título en 2026, después de perder dos finales y caer en tres semifinales.
En su estreno en Cincinnati, Gauff tuvo que remontar ante Liudmila Samsonova, que se llevó el primer set por 6-2. Sin embargo, la número 4 del mundo reaccionó a tiempo y se impuso por 2-6, 6-4 y 6-1.
A partir de ese momento, la tenista local avanzó con autoridad y encadenó cinco victorias consecutivas en dos sets ante Ann Li, Marie Bouzkova, Marta Kostyuk, Sara Bejlek y Jessica Pegula, a quien derrotó por un contundente 6-2 y 6-4 en la final.
Gauff brilló especialmente ante Pegula, número 3 del mundo, al aprovechar cinco de sus seis oportunidades de break y dominar el encuentro de principio a fin.
Gauff espera trasladar su nivel de Cincinnati al US Open
Después de conquistar su segundo título en Cincinnati y el duodécimo de su carrera en el circuito WTA, Gauff explicó que cada partido le permitió ganar confianza en el trabajo realizado.
"I think with each match, I was feeling more and more confident in trusting the work that I put in and the practice," afirmó Gauff tras completar su triunfo en Cincinnati.
"Knowing that I can figure out these matches, and it's going to be tough in New York, but just knowing the quality wins that I had this week, knowing that I'm able to figure it out even if I'm not playing my best, but also knowing that I can play that great tennis that I felt like I was playing this week."

Gauff: "It's night and day, the player I was last year to now"
El año pasado, la estadounidense cayó en los octavos de final del Abierto de Canadá y alcanzó los cuartos de final en Cincinnati, antes de despedirse del US Open en los octavos de final frente a Naomi Osaka.
Esta temporada, Gauff llegó a las semifinales en Canadá y se proclamó campeona en Cincinnati. De este modo, afronta su llegada a Nueva York con un balance de 9-1 sobre pista dura durante el verano.
"I think it was a long journey, but I'm happy. I think it's night and day, the player I was last year to now. I don't think that this is an indicator that I'm going to do well in New York. Just knowing the quality ones that I had this week, hopefully I can use that experience," añadió la número 4 del mundo.
La campeona del US Open 2023 buscará ahora conquistar su segundo título en Flushing Meadows.
