Rick Macci asegura que Aryna Sabalenka está jugando últimamente «más a la defensiva» y sugiere que su confianza se ha visto afectada, algo que también ha llevado a sus rivales a creer con mayor firmeza que la número uno del mundo puede ser derrotada.
Después de conquistar títulos consecutivos en Indian Wells y Miami a comienzos de año, la campeona de cuatro Grand Slam ya suma seis torneos sin levantar un trofeo. Esa racha incluye el torneo de Toronto de esta semana, donde la bielorrusa sufrió una sorprendente derrota en octavos de final ante Ekaterina Alexandrova por 6-7 (3), 6-4 y 4-6.
Durante este periodo, Sabalenka también ha encajado algunos tropiezos especialmente llamativos. En Madrid no logró convertir seis bolas de partido antes de caer ante Hailey Baptiste en cuartos de final. Además, desperdició una ventaja de 6-3 y 5-3 frente a Diana Shnaider en los cuartos de Roland Garros, después de perder los 10 últimos juegos del encuentro.

"Sabalenka is playing different than in the past. She is farther behind the baseline. She is on the back foot more. She is bailing out of the crosscourt lasers sooner than normal," afirmó en X el entrenador, de 71 años.
"Mentally her confidence has been tested and as a result the unreal belief we saw before is out the door. She has always been emotional but could regroup in 20 seconds. She can flip the switch but the ripple now is other players see she is hitting long and into the net and they feel they can pull the upset."

Sabalenka espera pasar página en Cincinnati
Con el US Open a la vuelta de la esquina, Sabalenka tratará de pasar página en el próximo torneo WTA 1000 de Cincinnati.
El torneo de Cincinnati ha sido un escenario propicio para la número uno del mundo. Allí conquistó el título en 2024 y también alcanzó las semifinales en tres ediciones diferentes del torneo WTA 1000.
Está por ver si Sabalenka consigue reencontrarse con su mejor nivel en Cincinnati y enderezar el rumbo antes del US Open.
