“I’m actually so excited. To me, this is, for now, gonna be the match of the tournament coming up tomorrow.

I would probably, in this matchup, take Jovic, and nothing to do with the head-to-head. It’s just a gut feeling. But I think it’s gonna be much closer than any other match they’ve had this year.”

“So Eala, her whole game, is about taking time away. She doesn’t have the biggest serve, doesn’t hit the ball big, but she really takes your time away by getting inside the court, and watch how many practice cuts she takes. Every single point, practice forehand cut, practice a backhand cut. She raises the legs, hits the fist on there. She has a lot of quirks.

But Iva Jovic’s game, surprisingly, she doesn’t feel that comfortable on defence. She likes to take offence.”

“You know what, you say that, BG, but I played Iva in March, and I didn’t feel that so much. Like, I think she, if you look at her court positioning, I felt like, you know, she has the capability to drop back behind the baseline quite a bit, and then she’s straight back on it.

So I think we sometimes miss how good her movement is, but I do think she has the capability to play decent defence.”

Finalmente, Gilbert también se inclinó por Jovic.

“To me, all sides tell me, with the fan base, everybody wants to see Eala winning. I am going with the American success. I’m going Iva Jovic, four and six.”

“Yeah, I’m super excited. The atmosphere is gonna be amazing, and she’s been playing some great tennis.

So it’s nice to be playing each other third round, deeper into the Slam, so hopefully we can all keep going on runs like this.”

“She’s an amazing player, young, very talented and very intelligent of course. She’s a high-ranked player and very very accomplished, and I’ve encountered my fair share of challenges against her this year.”
