La tenista estadounidense, que forma parte del circuito desde 2016, no es precisamente una jugadora con rostro de póker en la pista. Al contrario, a sus 24 años suele mostrar claramente cómo se siente ante cada situación, con gestos y reacciones que lo dicen prácticamente todo.

Durante la rueda de prensa previa al torneo en Flushing Meadows, le preguntaron por las ediciones que los aficionados realizan con sus gestos durante los partidos. La subcampeona del US Open 2024 respondió con total sinceridad.
“I definitely see them. They’re very entertaining and very funny," reconoció Anisimova.
"I didn’t always think that, because I’ve definitely always been very expressive, and an emotional player and make all kinds of faces that I didn’t even know my face could possibly make."

Al profundizar en su respuesta, Anisimova recordó haber visto una de las fotografías tomadas durante su derrota en tres sets ante Ashleigh Barty en las semifinales de Roland Garros 2019. La actual número 11 del mundo admitió que se sintió "mortified" al verla y que se prometió no volver a poner una cara similar en la pista. Sin embargo, los gestos siguieron apareciendo.
"When I was 17 and I played at the French Open in the semis, I was going through the whole range of emotions and I was making all kinds of faces. The next morning I woke up and I saw the pictures, I was mortified. I told myself ‘Oh my God. This is awful. I can never make these faces again. I’m never gonna do it again,'" añadió la dos veces finalista de un Grand Slam.
"But here we are today. I can’t help it. It’s who I am. Now I’m able to find them entertaining and hilarious. But at the time when I was a teenager I really thought that was quite awful."
