Greg Rusedski cuestionó la decisión de los organizadores del Masters 1000 de Cincinnati de programar el debut de Novak Djokovic en las horas más calurosas del día.
El ex número cuatro del mundo considera que el campeón serbio merece un trato diferente después de todo lo que ha conseguido a lo largo de su carrera.
El serbio reveló que padece un problema de salud cuyos síntomas se agravan con las altas temperaturas y la humedad elevada. Y eso fue exactamente lo que ocurrió durante el partido que perdió en tres sets ante Thiago Agustín Tirante. A sus 39 años, Djokovic tuvo que hacer frente a una indisposición e incluso vomitó durante un cambio de pista. Fue necesaria la intervención del personal médico del torneo, que le tomó la presión arterial para determinar qué estaba sucediendo en la pista central.

"I'm just happy to be able to have Novak with us whenever possible. He's 39 years old, and what he's achieved is incredible. But from a physical point of view it is really tough, especially with the heat and humidity of Cincinnati. It can be brutal. I remember when I played there: I was completely soaked, you almost couldn't hold the racket in your hand. The heat is unbearable, you have to have the frozen towel on all the time," explicó Rusedski en su pódcast Off Court.
"Novak must be protected. He cannot play during the day. He has to play in the evening, from 7 pm onwards. He earned this right. And especially against a young man like the Argentine Tirante, who manages to hit the ball with incredible power. So, for Novak, it was a really prohibitive gaming program. I think at the US Open he will be protected. I hope he continues to play for a long time to come. Even young people would struggle with such heat. Just look at Jack Draper in his game: he also didn't fare easily, and he is much younger than Novak," añadió.
Tras su inesperada eliminación en Cincinnati, el ex número uno del mundo regresará directamente a la competición en el US Open a finales de este mes.
