La retirada de Jannik Sinner del US Open por sus problemas en la rodilla se suma a la de otros jóvenes protagonistas del circuito, obligados a parar durante periodos más o menos prolongados de la temporada debido a las lesiones.
Entre ellos destacan Jack Draper, cuya carrera se ha visto constantemente frenada por los problemas físicos; Arthur Fils, que ahora está recuperando su mejor nivel; el siempre castigado Holger Rune, ausente desde noviembre de 2025 por una rotura del tendón de Aquiles; y Carlos Alcaraz, que se ha perdido los dos últimos Grand Slam, aunque regresará en Nueva York.
La reflexión más evidente es que el ritmo del circuito constituye la principal causa de una situación cada vez más preocupante. Así lo señaló Paolo Bertolucci, quien analizó la baja de Sinner en el US Open para La Gazzetta dello Sport y subrayó la necesidad de que los tenistas, independientemente de su edad, realicen una buena planificación.
Una situación preocupante
El extenista italiano repasó las lesiones de los principales ausentes del US Open: "Young players, on the launching pad: and yet... This should make us reflect on what tennis has become on a physical level: the protagonists are forced to train more and more stressfully. The body becomes like an elastic band that is pulled day after day more and more, to the maximum, and when this elastic gives way, injuries become serious and long. Carlos Alcaraz himself is now ready to return to the US Open, but he hasn´t played a match since mid-April."
Sobre el número uno del mundo, Bertolucci afirmó: "Undoubtedly, the pull made by Sinner this year, which led to winning 5 consecutive Masters 1000, from Indian Wells to Rome via Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid, must have left some aftermath".
El actual comentarista de Sky volvió a insistir en la importancia de completar correctamente la recuperación para evitar recaídas. "You can´t present yourself, at these levels, if you haven´t solved the previous problem. A possible relapse, in fact, would be dramatic and could even lead to the early closure of the 2026 season. Therefore, we must move with lead feet, do the right things, not get caught up in the anxiety of returning at all costs - explained Bertolucci, who added -. Sinner has just turned 25. He still has several seasons ahead of him, realistically, at the highest level and he will not miss the opportunity to play the US Open and other major tournaments many times. But the body must be fine-tuned, reappearing only when everything is back in its place".
